
A hop Kiln in Healdsburg (built 1905). In the early 1900's, before grapes, hops were one of the county's biggest crops. Ever heard of Hopland, CA? These kilns were common and can still be found although repurposed. Landmark Vineyards bought this in 2020 and added it to it's portfolio of vineyards. Landmark wanted this building specifically because... it was a landmark.

A Petaluma grain facility Lakeville St Petaluma

This building is a north county icon and can be easily seen driving south on US 101 through Asti. Dr. Ray Vaughn Pierce (1840-1914) one of the more successful 19th century "snake oil" quacks. Dr. Pierce first started his pharmaceutical entrepreneurship in Buffalo N.Y. pushing his own "blood purifier" known as Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery. He and his son, Valentine Motts Pierce (1865 -1942), successfully sold the elixir for 90+ years. Before automobiles, a barn served as the predecessor to the billboard. This preserved advertisement is a reminder that Sonoma County was once a rural community where medicine may have been easier to get from traveling salesmen than actually finding a physician. The barn is slowly falling apart with parts of the roof missing. I'd be surprised if it lasted another 50 yrs.

This statue was commissioned in 2013 for Burning Man. The coyote represents freedom, love of wild spaces, and the tenacity to remain. It is 26' tall and weighs 7 tons. Wilson Winery Coyote on Dry Creek Rd Healdsburg, Ca.

R.O. Shelling Grain and Feed Petaluma (built:1958)

At the turn of the century, Glen Ellen was a busling vacation land for the rich visiting from San Francisco. It had several large hotels, bars, and a rail station. Jack London Saloon (built 1905)

This is one of the few buildings in Petaluma that is visible no matter where you are in town. A reminder that Petaluma is still an agricultural hub of Northern California. Dairymen's feed and supply co-op (built: 1937)

In 2015 PG&E commissioned 2 local artists to add the power outlet to this old 1920's building.
